This could be from milk, fabric softener, or orange juice. You will also need to have paraffin wax, two full ice cube trays, a double boiler, and also white packing string. If you do not like to use your double boiler an old coffee canister and a saucepan will work just as well.

Trim the top off of the wax carton, leaving it roughly six inches high. You will need to cut the string for about 8 inches long. You will then cut the wick to fit into the holder. To ensure a wick that burns easier get three pieces and bread them together. Use smaller bits of string to tie the ends together. The holders for your candles are typically anything you prefer provided that they are non-flammable. Attractive vases, glasses, and jars work well.

Melt about three pounds of paraffin wax using the double boiler or coffee can. To allow it to melt faster, cut it into small pieces. The melting operation will need around fifteen to twenty minutes. As the wax is melting, strip the papers off of the old crayons. You and your children can opt to divide the colors by lights and darks to have a mix that melds nicely or you can mix it totally and notice what the color becomes.

For optimum results, only add up the crayons to the wax after it has fully melted. Once the crayons and wax have both melted together, immediately take out the mix from the stove and pour into your candle holders. If you want to make aromatic candles try putting a splash of cinnamon or vanilla to your hot wax solution.

It is important that the candles be kept aside to completely solidify. Make sure you have an area this can be done without disturbance. It is also imperative you make sure small children can not touch them, as out of curiosity they may want to check their candles. The wax will stay hot for hours and can scold the skin.

Making candles out of old crayons is an excellent way to spend the afternoon creating a neat project with your children. This exercise can also be done at schools and childcare facilities with old crayons as presents for parents. Simply allow each child to decorate the outside of their candle holder as adults complete the rest of the process.
